The route running south of Aigen-Schlägl leads up to the surrounding heights, from which you can see northwards into the valley of the Große Mühl, with Schlägl Monastery and the Bohemian Forest in the background.
Markings: yellow aluminium signs, also red-white-red colour markings on trees

0 km  The hike starts at Aigen-Schlägl market square. It runs parallel to Waldsteig trail no. 40 up to the Berghäusln. You start in a northerly direction and walk straight ahead into Waldgasse. 3.8 km Berghäusln with magnificent views of Aigen-Schlägl. The Waldsteig and Mühltalblickweg paths now separate. Turn right, past the houses, along a small section of forest path and you will reach the tarmac road. Follow this road until you reach the Aigen - Oberhaag road. Now turn left and immediately right again. Enjoy the marvellous view. Continue along the path through a section of forest until you reach the shortcut to Aigen-Schlägl. Turn left, then right again shortly afterwards, following the signposts. Viewpoint at the edge of the forest above Wurmbrand with a beautiful view of the valley of the Große Mühl, Aigen-Schlägl, Ulrichsberg and as far as Bavaria. 

7.0 km Wurmbrand. At the junction with the road to St. Oswald, cross to the right and immediately turn left again onto the field path to Unterneudorf. Turn left onto the road to Haslach and immediately right again. Walk along the edge of the forest until you reach the turn-off to the left into the forest. At the end of the wood, turn right onto the country lane and then left. Walk slightly uphill between the ponds, follow the field path straight ahead, cross the tracks of the Mühlkreisbahn railway and continue walking ...
