Beautiful hiking trail with a wonderful view of the picturesque landscape of the Bohemian Forest.
Marking: yellow aluminium signs, additional red-white-red tree marking,

0 km Not far from the Peilstein church square in Höhenstraße at house no. 3 (first hiking sign), the Hochwaldweg trail begins, accompanied by the Weg der Entschleunigung trail and the Falkensteinerweg trail (long-distance hiking trails). Briefly follow the Höhenstraße, turn left at the kindergarten and cross the Wäschbachl in the hollow. The path leads to the adventure playground on the right. However, turn left and immediately right along the meadow path uphill to the village of Berging. Pass the farmstead on the left and walk towards the Bühel (grove) in front of you. Continue until you reach the ...

1.1 km ... Häuslin biotope. Plants that have become rare feel at home here. A beautifully designed rest area with a drinking water point awaits you. The forest path now becomes steeper. When you reach the end of the forest, head across the meadow towards the wooden house. Continue to the left until you pass the Hemmerau dry biotope shortly afterwards and immediately arrive at a wonderfully quiet resting place, the ...

2.0 km ... Hochwaldblick. The effort of the ascent is now rewarded by the magnificent view over the Mühltal ridge, to the Bohemian Forest and to the ruins of Wittinghausen in the former Sudetenland. Hans Mühlbauer, born in Oberpeilstein, recounts: In the period between 1945 and 1955, the inhabitants on the Czech side were resettled from the border strip. People had to move away, villages were razed to the ground. We were able to follow this from here. One house after the other was burnt down. For a long time there was still a large farm in Deutsch-Reichenau until it too fell victim to the flames. You soon reached the ridge of the mountain. Now the terrain slopes gently downhill again and you reach the few farmsteads of ...

2.4 km ... Eschernhof. Here the Falkensteinerweg leaves us. Now turn left into the asphalt road. On this road with little traffic, you only hike for a short time and do not miss the turn-off to the right into the forest. The path loops downhill and you meet the Stoanaweg. After 800 m, you then separate from the Stoanaweg and the path of deceleration (a 5-minute detour to the nearby Kühstein is worthwhile, however, because of the magnificent view). You continue parallel with the Brezerjausenweg, which accompanies us to Rutzersdorf. The Hochwaldweg leads past below the Kühstein. At the farm you join the access road. Now you have to pay close attention to the markings so that you don't miss the further path across the meadow to the forest.
Cross the forest and walk steeply downhill. At the end of the forest you will be offered a beautiful view over the hilly landscape of the Mühlviertel. Walk past the farmstead in front of you and down into the valley, where you cross the Hennerbach stream at the pond. You reach the idyllic village on this beautiful stretch of path, slightly ascending ...

6.7 km ... Hennerbach, which you hike through. On a little-used goods road you come to ...

7.7 km ... Rutzersdorf with the listed Brezerhaus. Follow the signs through the forest until you reach the junction with the asphalt road, which you follow to the right until you reach the village of ...

10.6 km ... Rampetzreit, where you continue along the upper end of the village. In the village there is an old troadkast'n, which was probably built at the time of Maria Theresa in 1735. Despite the 1 km asphalt path that now follows, you will be compensated with magnificent views of the Kleine Mühltal. Pay attention to the markings, because before you get to Vordorf, the forest path leads uphill to the left, where you will find a bench with a beautiful view at the edge of the forest. Now you walk mostly level ...

12.1 km ... Continue along the path. On the left you will see the Kickinger Chapel, which is dedicated to the Mother of God. On the field path uphill, you will soon reach the village of ...

12.7 km ... Kicking. At the end of the village you have a wonderful view of Peilstein. Go downhill past the Kehlbrunnen (resting benches), where you cross the main road in the valley. A footpath leads uphill, past ...

14 km ... a rest area with a statue of the Mother of God, to the starting point at Peilstein.
